Rhiannon is a textiles artist and designer, currently residing in Herefordshire, UK. In 2014, she completed an MA in Textiles from Royal College of Art, and a BA from University College Falmouth in 2011. Rhiannon was selected for Texprint 2011, exhibiting and selling her first collection at Premiere Vision Paris, and at New Designers in Islington in 2011, where she received the National Quilt Festival Award. In 2014 she was awarded The Worshipful Company of Needlemakers Scholarship, and was a h.Art prize winner in 2018.
After graduating, Rhiannon worked as a womenswear print and embroidery designer in textile design studios in London, New York, and Stockholm. She currently works as a freelance embroidery designer, with her studio art practice of embroidered tapestries, and teaching.
Rhiannon’s work has been represented by galleries including According to McGee, Oriel Myrddin Gallery, and Ruthin Arts Centre. Her first solo art show ‘Hiraeth’ was exhibited at Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre in 2018, with a cover feature in Embroidery magazine, and Textiel Plus.
Rhiannon has worked as an artist for community based projects, and council commissions, including working as one of the lead artists for Processions 2018 to commemorate 100 years of Women’s Right to Vote, and in 2016 for ‘Sowings for New Spring’, creating a WW1 Memorial Tapestry for Hampshire Council.
Rhiannon’s areas of research include Celtic history, folklore, women’s work, art as protest, and ecclesiastic embroidery. Rhiannon’s latest collection ‘Our Lady’ is a colourful celebration of the Divine Mother, inspired by her own experience of motherhood and by the exuberance of Mexican Catholic Folk Art and the religious icons and tapestries created by her female ancestors that decorated her childhood home.
